DAY RIDE IN THE BEARTOOTHS (Private)
Ride into adventure—rugged trails, breathtaking views, and the wild heart of Montana await!
Service Description
Ride into the clouds on this full-day horseback adventure through Montana’s awe-inspiring high country. Departing from Skyline Guest Ranch, this journey takes you deep into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, climbing to elevations near 10,000 feet. Designed for experienced riders—or adventurous souls eager to take on rugged mountain trails—this ride promises some of the most breathtaking backcountry views in the West. You'll meet at the ranch between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. to check in, meet your guide, and get matched with a surefooted mountain horse ready for the day’s journey. From there, we’ll ascend into the Gallatin National Forest and Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, riding through dense pine forests, open wildflower meadows, and past cascading waterfalls. As we gain elevation, the views open up to sweeping alpine lakes and panoramic mountain ridgelines that stretch as far as the eye can see. After about four hours in the saddle, we’ll stop for a well-earned lunch break in the high country. Enjoy a freshly prepared sack lunch while the horses graze nearby and you take time to rest, explore, and soak in the scenery. Once everyone is ready, we’ll continue our ride back down the mountain, returning to the ranch in the late afternoon. Ride duration is typically 6 to 10+ hours and can be adjusted based on your group’s comfort level and trail conditions. Lunches include a sandwich, homemade cookies, fresh fruit, trail mix or nuts, and a drink selection from our cooler, stocked with water, Gatorade, and soft drinks. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are available upon request. All riders must be able to mount and dismount their horses without a mounting block. While we welcome all riding levels at Skyline, this particular experience is best suited for guests with prior riding experience or a strong sense of adventure. A minimum of two riders is required. For groups of more than 10, please call us to arrange custom accommodations. Don’t see your preferred date? Give us a call at (406) 838-2380—we’ll do our best to make it happen. A 4% Montana resort tax is included in the trip price (Montana does not charge sales tax).
